More Pride, Less Prejudice

Odiavo Jane Austen, semplicemente perchè il suo libro, "Orgoglio e Pregiudizio" (1813), non mi permetteva di proseguire oltre pagina 44 della versione italiana.

Trovavo i dialoghi insulsi, privi di valore, come se avessero avuto il solo scopo (specialmente pensando all'appiccicoso e pretenzioso cugino Mr. Collins) di riempire dei tempi morti con qualcosa che non fosse deleterio come diversi minuti di imbarazzanti silenzi.

Finchè non potrò cambiarla, questa sarà la mia opinione sulla società inglese del tempo.

Iniziai ad avere brutti pensieri anche sulla società italiana non appena vidi una mia amica, in spiaggia, leggere la versione inglese del romanzo.

Prima pensai che la mia amica non poteva essere così masochista da procurarsi una tale noia (mi parve più ovvio il fatto che l'avessero obbligata), e poi, facendo il conto in libbre, realizzai che se avessi scelto la versione originale invece di quella italiana, sarei durato più o meno fino a pagina 31,74...

Invece, ecco l'attrice che non t'aspetti: Keira Knightley.

Trovo che il carattere di Elizabeth Bennet si sposi alla grande con l'espressività e la bellezza del suo volto, e quindi faccio i complimenti al regista Joe Wright ed al direttore del casting per la scelta.

Questo è uno di quei pochi film in cui si nota che l'attrice protagonista, che recita senza trucco "moderno", cioè con un trucco che la faccia sembrare struccata (pardon), è più carina che alla prima del film, quando fa il bagno nella cipria e cerca di affogare i bulbi oculari nel mascara...

Quindi il mio messaggio alle ragazze carine è: siete già splendide così, perciò non perdeteci tempo !

I used to hate Jane Austen due to her best known work, "Pride and Prejudice" (1813).

I tried to read it twice, but both times I gave up at page 44 of the italian version.

I've found that dialogues were absolutely boring, and I thought that characters had nothing to do but sharing meaningless speeches. The master of this being Mr. Collins.

One day I woke up and thought: "Well, if this is the 18th Century English society, I'm glad I have nothing in common with it". I'm still sure about it, until I can't change my point of view.

A couple of years ago, one of my friends - be sure I'm never gonna tell her name - was sitting beside me and reading Jane Austen's English version work. When I turned and saw that book, I thought: "Damn, I can't imagine she decided to read that book by herself... She should have been forced to do it by some boring teacher... I couldn't ever imagine how far I could have gone reading the English version !!!".

And then came the movie: I should pick up the phone and call Joe Wright, the movie's director, and congratulate with him for giving Keira Knightley the role of Elizabeth Bennet.

In my opinion, Keira really looks like Izzie Bennet: so natural, so hurting to Mr. Darcy (Matthew MacFayden), so patient, so beautiful.

In this movie, Keira used special cosmetics that helped her to appear just... natural, and she was much more beautiful than in the premiere.

So this is my suggestion to beautiful girls: don't ever use any cosmetics, you're a gift of nature by yourselves !!
